Home awnings

Adding sun awnings to your home is a great way to both get more out of your outdoor space and make the interior more comfortable. Awnings for decks or patios will allow you to host fun BBQs or family get-togethers, regardless of how harsh the sun might be, and they can even reduce interior temperatures by eight to 15 degrees, potentially reducing AC costs by up to 25%. Plus, they add a nice aesthetic to the exterior of any home. As a result, awnings will always prove to be a great investment. But before reaping the benefits of them, homeowners will have to learn how to install awnings to make sure they function properly and will last a long time.

  1. Do Some Prep Work
  2. Before starting the process of installing house awnings, take a few minutes to get everything you need ready. That means get out all of the tools you need so you can quickly grab them and spend a few minutes getting familiar with all of the parts of the awning. Doing so could help save time later on.

  3. Determine Height
  4. Many awnings have a minimum height requirement, but they can be flexible. Determine how high you want the bottom of your awning to be and then work back towards your house to find where to mount it. This measurement is one of the most important steps when figuring out how to install awnings properly.

  5. Find the Studs
  6. You’ll need to locate the studs in the wall of your home to make sure that mounts are secured properly. To find them, you can use a stud finder tool or the tried and true method of simply banging on the wall until you hear the proper sound.

  7. Drill!
  8. At this point, you’ll finally be able to actually attach something to your home. Use a power drill and solid screws to connect the mounting assembly properly.

  9. Attach the Awning Itself
  10. Every awning will have different mounting instructions and hardware that need to be used. Because of that, this final stage will always vary a bit. Thankfully, for the most part, it is not too complicated, even if you have a motorized awning.

Learning how to install awnings is easier than you might realize, and the project can be completed in just a free day or a few hours here and there after work. No matter when you are able to find some time, if you want to get the most out of your outdoor space and even add some comfort to the inside of your home, installing awnings is always a worthwhile project.
